There was a time not too long ago that I wanted to go back to school for a degree in culinary arts; I figured I could do it and felt well prepared after watching many seasons of Top Chef and cooking in my own kitchen; insert big laugh here; well the universe had other plans and instead I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work. While I love social work and dedicating myself to the service of others, I always knew that there was something missing and I started to nurture this creative yearning with cooking.

At first it was just for kicks and I posted a couple photos on my Facebook and Instagram page. I was met with great encouragement and excitement from friends and family who asked me why I had not started a blog to journal my experiences with food; truly I was not sure. Maybe it was fear, self-doubt or procrastination; but I knew whatever it was I was done with it and I was ready, finally.

So here I introduce you to SheCooksPhilly, my humble dedication to my own craft work with food. The photos you see within this site are real, they were cooked in a tiny, South Philly Kitchen. I am not a professional chef. I am a home cook, a person who enjoys a food challenge and is open to culinary experiences. This blog is a way for me to express my love for food and my creations. I will always let you know if a food featured is not my creation and will credit the creator. I am happy to share my love of food with you and hope that you will be inspired to be brave and create.
